Submitting to Directories? Read this …

Directory SubmissionsBack in September, I wrote an article about the validity of submitting your blog to directories because in my personal experience, the cost and time element didn’t match the difference in the amount of traffic I was getting to my site.

Just a few days ago, WebPro news wrote an interesting article about Google devaluing DMOZ and Yahoo links.

If you are using directory submissions or thinking about submitting your site to directories, this really is a must read and as always, I highly recommend that you pay attention to some of the comments too.

Like any linking strategy, my arguement is that natural inbound links as a result of good quality content is better than any other link-building strategy.  If you add up the time it takes to submit to directories, ask yourself the question, “how many articles could I have submitted or, how many blog posts could I have written or how many video and audio posts could I have created?”

I have not doubt that the Directory Submission debate will go on for many months to come, but my conclusion is that I would prefer to put my time and energy into something that’s going to fetch me some long-term gains, like article writing.

It seems like Google is devaluing directory links more and more these days. I completely agree with you that quality content that produces natural links will no doubt produce better long terms results then directory submission.

    Hi Richard,

I read somewhere only days ago that Google have officially declared that they are not giving much notice to reciprocal linking or directory submissions, something that I’m certain they encouraged in the past. As far as I can see, they want “natural” link building as much as possible.

I’m happy with it being that way though because in today’s blogosphere, quality content get’s noticed so all those adsense sites that are there purely to make money will lose their value.

    All the best Richard,

    Trish

    Hi Trish,

I stumble over you on YouTube and I was taken by your straight talk, no bull approach to blogging. And that is exactly what I was looking for.

I have a particular problem. I got a website built for me by a web designer. Now that it is finished I am at a lost as to how to upload news items, articles and videos to the web pages. I have heard of WordPress and my question is how I adopt WordPress to my website. I downloaded WordPress and even went as far as to paste some article on the post or write page. Now how do I get something from WordPress to publish on my website? I do not want to stay in WordPress blog page, I want to use WordPress as a vehicle to post articles to http://www.ghanascope.net and I don’t know how to do it. I hope you could help me.

    Sincerely,

    Eric
