Social media is great and websites, blogs and microsites have their place, but they are still not the best way to close the deal.
Sure, like I’ve said before, I’ve had clients pay me for my services before ever speaking to them, but this not permission to avoid verbal communication.
If you’re liaising with someone via Facebook or Twitter, and it’s heading in the direction of a business deal, suggest you get on the telephone and speak to them. Often those things that are awkward to say or ask via social media can be ironed out quickly during a conversation, the prospect feels as though they know you better and I would say the likelyhood of you landing the deal is going to be much higher.
We were made to “talk” verbally and not type, so it’s time to move away from what we’ve accepted as natural and go back to basics … your voice … a very powerful communication tool.
