  • What Will Smith Taught Me About Online Marketing

Will SmithI've just done watching a YouTube video of Will Smith being interviewed by Jonathan Ross here in the UK and apart from the fact that I find Will Smith naturally funny, there were two things that he said that really resonated with me:

In the first video, he was asked by Jonathan, "what gets you angry" and to which Will Smith replied, "big fat liars" which reminded me of why so many newbies on the Internet are skeptical of purchasing new products.  Because in the past and and even now, there are some big fat liars who will sell you anything based on hype and make out that anyone can do it and in fact, you can make millions from your 4th room, wearing only your PJ's.

And yes, I know of many Internet Marketers who built million dollar businesses from their bedroom so, I'm not dismissing the fact that this is true and, I understand people's skepticism about purchasing products from "snake oil" marketers but, on the other hand, in video two, Will tells the story of how he made a load of money and then lost it all when the IRS came and claimed all he had, including his home.

  • How To Make Viral Videos

video_image-1.jpgLast year, the big thing online was about getting your videos on YouTube or Google Video but in my view, 2008 demands much more than creating a video or putting it up on sites.

Yep, 2008 is about spread!  If you want to stand out from the crowd, you have to make your videos viral and if you want to learn more about how to do this, young Gavin over at RyanShamus.com has just written a great article on how to make your videos viral.

As Gavin points out, to be viral, your video has to be different - funny, unique, interesting and, I would add to this, inspiring.  In other words, you have to engage your audience enough that they consider your worthy of sharing with their friends via email, social networking or even on their own blog. After all as Gavin points out, "the term ‘viral’ comes from the same concept as a virus - it spreads! But, in this case the spreading is a good thing."

Basically, having a is like word-of-mouth marketing

  • Web 2.0 Dying?

Is Web 2.0 as a "look and feel", techonolgy or strategy dying?

I'm not really asking this question, but I think it's a comment worth making since only this morning, I received a comment that is dying.

I then decided to take a look online out of curiousity and I was amazed at just how worlds apart people's idea of Web 2.0 really is.

You have some who think it's all about "look and feel" and, for me, I do think that has something to do with it, but let's just consider what the old "flat" looking Internet Explorer looked like a few years back compared to today or the icons for Windows in the days of dos.  How many of you would want to go back to that "look?"  I know I certainly have no intention of going back there and if I use software that still has this old syle look, my thoughts usually go along these lines … "when are these dinasours going to catch up with the times."

  • A BIG Rant From Marlon Sanders …

And, I have to say it's a justified rant …

I kinda understand how Marlon is feeling right now since it often seems that you spend all the money and time attending the seminars, buying the courses, reading the books, listening to the audios and then someone wants to come pick your brains, have you do some of the work for them in the hope that they'll strike it lucky.

Well I agree with Marlon that if you're marketing on the net, you need to have business basics.  You have to know how this business works because if you don't no amount of blogs you put up, no amount of mini websites you build will give you the desired income because you need to know how to market them.

When I left my job to have my baby in 2001, I had just completed my MBA and although I'm grateful for the process, my little girl was only months old and I was attending classes on marketing and business practice building (I'd decided to become a coach at the time) because I realised my MBA just wasn't practical enough.  And, I'm going to give you Marlon's rant in a moment, but I'm also going to say this …

  • I Gotta Tell You …

The Internet Success Bootcamp in London UK this last weekend was a hoot!!

And, if you want to know the trends in Internet Marketing and what's working and what isn't I would encourage you to stay tuned to this blog post to the very end.  I'll make it short and sweet but don't miss out because the trend is so simple, most people will want to kick themselves when they read it!

First of all, the line-up speakers were just amazing and whilst I won't mention every speaker who attended over the three days, some really stood out including:

    • Marlon Sanders who spoke about the 6 steps in The Amazing Formula (and it is amazing)
    • Bruce Safran from My Affiliate Store speaking about the 5 things you need to succeed and the 3 things you need to make money
    • Anik Singal on Affiliate Marketing.  This guy had such an impact on me personally with his easy steps system to making money from affiliate commissions
    • The Rubik's Cube Guy - Greg Cesar with his amazing Adwords Formula
