  • Blog Vs. Website?

Blog vs. a website … which one should I have?

This is a recurring question I get asked again and again and, it really is a valid question … one I asked before setting up my own blogs.

First of all, I need to make this ultra clear … a blog IS a website.  In fact, I want to take that a stage further and say that blogs are "dynamic" websites.  You can have pages on a blog and, with some of the great blog software on the market today, it can sometimes be difficult to tell some blogs and websites apart.

For those of you who may not know what a blog is, it’s short for web log, and is a frequently updated website consisting of blog posts, or entries (more often than not, dated entries) that are arranged in reverse chronological order.  So when a reader comes to your blog, they see your most recent article or post first.

The advantage of a blog is that blogs allows you to post written text, audio and video and have it online within minutes, unlike traditional static websites which can take hours to update and cost you each time - unless you’re familiar with building or editing web sites.

  • I Want To Build You A WordPress Blog … For FREE!

I've updated this blog post, but you can still get a WordPress blog for FREE and you're going to be getting a better deal!

You see, I've listened to you … Many of my readers asked me about the price of my upcoming coaching program but when I told you the price, most of you felt it was fair but felt you were all "spent out" having purchased so many home study courses with nothing to show for it - for some of you years later.

So I went back to the drawing board and whilst my coaching program will still go ahead in the future, I wanted to help you get started on the Net quickly.  But you know you don't get something for nothing right?  I gotta feed my family and, I want to spend more time with them … but if you're serious about marketing online, not only should you read this blog post carefull, you must take action.  So don't say you havent been warned …

  • Own Your Domain Name Or Else!

Do you know who has the rights and therefore ownership of your domain name?

An even better question if you're a home owner … would you sign over the deeds to your home and still expect to live there?

This is a serious issue and if you've allowed your webmaster to take control of registering your domain name, you NEED to read this blog post VERY carefully …

I have come across three situations in the past few months where my clients have either allowed their webmaster to register their domain name on their behalf or, in one case, my client was persuaded to sign over his domain name to his webmaster!

I can't think of any other way of saying this so I'm just going to stick to Trish style …

Allowing your webmaster or anyone else to register your domain name is like signing
over the deeds to your house and still expect to have all the same rights to live there!!

  • WordPress Semiologic Pro Theme Tip #2

Here is tip #2 on using the WYSIWYG editor of Semiologic Pro

Give some variety to your blogs by making it more interactive.

Apart from the fact that Semiologic Pro is search engine friendly (the canvass of the theme has been optimized for you), if anything will sway people from using the classic or free version to using the pro version, it's the WYSIWYG editor.  Not merely because of it's look and feel, but because of it functionality and ease of use.

In terms of making your blog interactive, you have several helpful task buttons on the tool bar including the 'add media button', 'the insert video button' and the 'ad unit button.'

By clicking on the media button, you can enter the url of where your audio is hosted (which could actually be a different server than where your WordPress blog is hosted) and it will insert a lovely looking player bar like this …

Get Flash to see this player.

And, within just a few seconds (once you've obtained the code from say YouTube), you could have your own, a third party's or, an animated video on your blog like this one …

  • Can A Blog Sell Your Professional Services?

If you're a professional service provider such as a consultant, life coach, professional speaker or publisher, it might be difficult to see how blogs can help you sell your services particularly when those in the online world tend to refer to selling products - either digital or physical.

But the truth of the matter is that if you provide a professional service then YOU are your product.  Therefore, your services can be sold using your blog in much the same way selling a product online can be sold.

One of the great things I love about blogs and blogging is the credibility that you can build up over a relatively short period of time.

You may feel that marketing online must be like planting a needle in a haystack and expecting your perfect prospect to find it.  But I want to give you two personal examples of my sites being found on the expansive world wide web over the past couple of months and the benefits for me.  The first isn't related to selling my professional services, but has much to do with the credibility factor …

  • Why Create A Business Blog With WordPress?

Why should you use WordPress to create your business blog anyway?

Now, I'm sure you've read somewhere on the Internet or heard someone say that you can set up a WordPress blog and start blogging in 15-minutes or less and, that would be true.  But, that only gives you half a picture since this will only give you the default WordPress blog, which is fine but you must bear in mind that NOT all WordPress blogs are created equal!  More on this later.

But first of all… what is a blog and why should you have one?

A blog derives its name from web log, which can be updated instantly, easily and usually frequently.  A blog is like an online journal, although it's a lot more than this.  The activity of updating a blog is “blogging” and someone who keeps a blog is a “blogger.”

Why should you have a blog if you're a small business ower, author, information marketer or indpendent professional?  You can…

    • Sack your web designer for a start!
    • Build your reputation quickly and easily
    • Get more traffic to your existing websites via your blog if you have them

  • HTML Color Codes

If you manage the "look and feel" of your own blog, you'll know how important finding the right HTML color code is, as well as how frustrating finding the right color code can be.

I personally use it all the time and usually have to scour a few different sites on the Internet to find the right one, or open my "cheapy" design editor to find the color I want.  But it's not always right and I usually end up fiddling about until I get the right shade.

Well, thanks to Denis de Bernardy, I now have the color scheme in one place.  I do know there is a good Hex color code chart online, but I prefer what Denis has created over at his site.

So, if you're a blog webmaster, go check it out, put it in your favorites if this is going to be one of the resources that you'll use time and time again.
