The First Wealth is Health

“The First Wealth is Health” is a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882), and it might seem strange that I’m talking about health in this blog but it’s important.

I have to tell you, I’m passionately disgruntled with the way our Government along with the Food and Drug industry are “killing us slowly with kindness.”

Yep, they’re being so nice to us by giving us more fast, overprocessed foods and bombarding us with more adverts for fast and packaged foods than ever before and what many people don’t realise is that this same food could be killing you!

The speed with which you can get food from the microwave to the table used to be so appealing to me until I started educating myself about the long-term affects of over processed foods, including malnutrition and obesity, which is at an all time high, despite the increased number of diet plans on the market and the so called “low fat” foods.

We’ll spend so much money trying to make another dime but when it comes to our health, we neglect it “for another day.”  We’ll blog til’ we drop but wouldn’t dare entertain jogging for 10 minutes.

The point I want to make from all of this is…

“what is the point of having all the wealth in the world if your health is at risk?”

I firmly believe that it’s time to start taking control of our own lives, which means educating ourselves about health and nutrition and doing more to gain back and then maintain our health.  It also means being balanced about the products we buy to support our business.  Do you need another home study course when it would be more beneficial to you to spend that money on gym membership, a health supplement or even some new jogging shoes.

And I’ve gotta tell you, I’m speaking to myself here too.  Last month, I purchased a natural supplement that I hadn’t purchased for months.  Within 3 days I felt better than I had done for months too.

You can’t over focus on making money, all the while neglecting the very body and mind that’s there to support you in your mission.

And, let me tell you … God wants you to prosper!

The Bible speaks of us “Prospering even as our soul prospers.” To quote what John said adds more impact…

“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.”

I mean, wow! What a statement!

He’s speaking of the “mind” by the way when he speaks of “soul” and not “spirit” as many have interpreted it. So what John is saying is that when we have a healthy mind, we’ll have a healthy body and we’ll also have a healthy bank balance because we will prosper in all things.

Before you spend a dime on the next sexy looking product that invades your inbox, ask yourself four questions:

  1. Do I need this “now?”
  2. Will I use it “now?”
  3. Do I already have something similar to this in my bookcase or on my hard disk?
  4. Is what I’ll be giving up to purchase this worth it?

Don’t be decieived into thinking that success means fattening your bank balance whilst neglecting your mind, body and spirit.  Something will eventually give but a healthy mind, body and spirit will lead you to pastures that are green.
