How Do I Start Blogging For Business?
If you’re a business owner but you’re new to blogging and, you’re anything like I was when I was a beginner, you have an idea about what a blog is and why have one, but you don’t know how to get started and, you’re confused because there are simply just too many options.
Do you use Blogger.com or a WordPress.com to set up a free blog hosting account, use MySpace or one of the other social networking sites to set up your blog or, build a blog using your own hosting account and domain name.
I’ve written several articles in the past about the various options but in terms of which platform to use, I personally advise against using free hosted solutions such as blogger.com or WordPress.com if you are building a business blog.
Why? Because there is nothing like “owning your blog.“
Do something that violates the terms and services of these hosted sites, and they’ll delete your blog leaving you with no chance of reinstatement … all your effort and hard work gone with one mouse click.
My personal preference for starting a blog is to use the free software you can download from WordPress.org (not to be confused with WordPress.com), because it’s the most popular, is used by many of the top Internet Marketers and has a myriad of plugins you can use to give your blog more functionality. The big plus is that the software is uploaded to your own server, using your own domain name and therefore, you “own” your blog.
In the long-term, you’ll be pleased you chose not to go the “hosted solutions” route because if you want to create an authority blog, yourname.com looks much better than yourname.wordpress.com – wouldn’t you agreee?
Sure you can move your blog to another blog platform later on or build it on your own hosting account, but whilst moving from one blog platform to another can be done, it’s not always plain sailing and no one wants to build up traffic and credibility and then have to start again on another blog platform.
My motto is “start right and it will save you fixing later.”
