Grab Your Free Facebook URL

My Facebook UsernameFacebook are giving away free and unique URL’s to make it easier for you to connect with friends and family.

I don’t know about you, but the default profile url always used to confuse me and they certainly weren’t memorable.

Well thanks to StomperNet, I found out about the “claim your name” just before 12:00 midnight and set my mental clock to wake me up before 5:00am and grab trishjones.

Twitterville was hot on the subject!  Some disgruntled people didn’t get their names and someone grabbed the name “problogger” before the REAL ProBlogger was able to which, I think is in poor spirit since you have to be blogging under a rock not to link the name ProBlogger to Darren Rowse.

Mashable reported that 200,000 names were taken within the first 3 minutes of the Facebook clock counting down to zero.  I assure you, I was one of the 200,000 after getting confused as to why trish.jones and not trishjones was being displayed as an option.  I soon saw the “more” link and clicked that to type in my own name, trishjones, and have to say I can go back to bed a very happy girl.  Mari Smith, the Facebook Queen says that apparently the trish.jones and trishjones are the same thing but, I would check this out before you choose your name since you can’t change it once you confirm.

No doubt this will make headline news – not me getting http://www.facebook.com/trishjones, but the whole name rush fiasco.  Some people just won’t get it and call us geeks but I assure you, it’s much easier to tell people to go to facebook.com/trishjones than it was with the old profile name which I could never remember.  I used to have to tell people to “just look me up!”

If you haven’t grabbed your unique Facebook url yet, go get it at http://www.facebook.com/username

  1. Hi, It was good reading your post! I’ve been hearing about John Beck’s program these days. My colleague also purchased the system to use it as a side business work.

I couldn’t get my desired username as well, facebook says it’s too short. Someone got default.aspx and someone else also got index :)

If you go to your profile, you will find a link on the left, giving you the option to change your profile name.
