Have We Gone Blog Wild?!

Is now the best time to start blogging for business?

It wasn’t that long ago that we thought blogging was for university students trying to kill time or the ‘New Age’ Yuppies who’d found a new way of communicating.  But today, everybody seems to have gone Blog Wild!

I heard an interesting report just last week that 2 out of 5 adults in the UK have at least one blog.  That’s a whopping 40%!  Not totally sure of the figures for the US, but the Pew Survey is an interesting read and will tell you who is blogging in America.

Though the 40% of bloggers tend to personal users updating their online diaries, the important thing is that people are getting used to writing and reading blogs which should encourage interactive participation on your business blog, by way of commenting, should they come across your site having been enticed by something of interest to them.

This report was however a contradiction to an earlier report released in May of this year that suggested Blogs are overhyped.  In addition to this, The British Market Research Bureau found that only 2 percent of Internet users keep a blog, that most forget about them after 3 months, and only about 10% of Internet users read blogs.

My view… this might well be the case but the popularity of blogs and in particular blogging for business is on the increase.  So the question you have to ask yourself is, do you get on board now whilst the trend is on the increase, or do you wait and start blogging for business when every man and his dog is doing it, making it more difficult to establish a presence on the web through your blog.

Check out Suw Charman’s blog and see for yourself the variety of British corporations that are using business blogs.  And I think I’m safe to say that if the big boys are doing it, it’s not something that’s going to disappear sometime soon!

If you’re new to blogging but would like to jump on the blogging for business band wagon, then may I suggest you take a look at one of the easiest books to read on blogging by Andy Wibbels, called Blog Wild!

His book not only shows you how to set up a blog step-by-step using the TypePad platform (not my favorite and Andy himself doesn’t use TypePad, but it’s good for beginners), but he will show you 10 ways you can profit with a business blog.

In my veiw, it’s a must read if you’re only half serious about blogging.

And on that note, Happy Blogging!
